SNH, View from the Train App

Client: Scottish Natural Heritage

As part of the Year of Natural Scotland celebrating Scotland’s wildlife and landscapes, CMC designed and produced a suite of smart phone audio guides and printed material to introduce Scotland’s natural heritage to those travelling Scotland by rail. In eight tours we covered all major rail routes in Scotland: Edinburgh/Glasgow to Inverness, Inverness to Wick, Glasgow to Oban/Fort William and Edinburgh/Glasgow to Aberdeen. Each line had a wealth of richly illustrated stories and information. It could be accessed as you travelled or from the app’s maps at home. The recording of dozens of interviews with local experts collated with hundreds of wonderful photos was fantastic fun and also a major content management operation for us.

CMC undertook all of the content recording and image management as well as the software production work for the App. We then managed the publication of the App for SNH (now NatureScot) on Apple and Android store. Subsequently each tour of the App has been republished using the iziTravel platform making is available today and hardware robust into the future.

So as you travel by train around Scotland you can listen to the stories of Scotland’s nature and culture, complete with interviews with experts and enthusiasts, sounds of the natural world and spectacular images
