CMC was commissioned to upgrade Forestry Commission Scotland’s interpretive facilities at this remote and beautiful site. We transformed the secluded otter hide into a welcoming environment full of fun and facts, provided new interpretive trails and signage, and worked closely with the Gaelic community to provide Gaelic interpretation alongside English language.
This project was Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS)’s first fully bilingual English/Gaelic) visitor facility. The introduction of tactile sculptures, manual interactives and also sound box listening posts provided a level of enrichment for visitors to the hide and trails. The hide has fantastic views across the deep-water channel between Skye and the mainland. The trails included interpretation for a marine mammal trail beside Kylerhea and the Gaelic history of a deserted settlement at Leitir Fura.
All content researched, written and designed by CMC, such as our new ‘bird’s eye’ perspective of the area, was prepared for use not only at physical locations but also on the FCS website and a traditional paper leaflet.
