CMC has recently tabled a detailed ‘Vision for Lanark 2020-30’. The report was commissioned by a community steering group led by Lanark Community Development Trust, New Lanark Trust, Discover Lanark and more recently the Scottish Wildlife Trust. We are now helping to take it through public consultation which will lead to its prioritised implementation.
Vision for Lanark report cover
Lanark and its surroundings include national and internationally important sites of natural and cultural heritage: two conservation areas, a world heritage site, a national nature reserve and several designed landscapes. These are fundamental to making Lanark special to both community and visitors. However, in recent years, the community feels that the interpretation of this special place has been found wanting. Lanark’s heritage, which should be the foundation of an integrated, jointly marketed, vibrant experience economy, needs to be helped to both join up and step up. Our report points to how this might be achieved and the community consultations will establish what their priorities are. The results we hope will be a greener more sustainable Lanark acting as the hub for the surrounding communities, landscape and heritage. Our report can be downloaded from: Vision for Lanark
