Orkney, Skara Brae, 3D App

Client: Historic Scotland & 3D ICONS, 2015-16

CMC Associates were appointed to design and build a 3D interactive tour of the Neolithic site at Skara Brae. The 3D tour was built using high resolution digital photography along with data collected during the Scottish Ten project. Within the app you can complete a range of tasks while you walk around each of the 10 houses. You can compare archive and recent photography to assess the changes over time, and search for 3D artefacts hidden throughout the site.

This 3D tour was also part of our work on the European Union’s research project 3D ICONS which looked at the use of 3D technology for World Heritage Sites. We were also then able to produce for Historic Scotland an investigative schools module on Skara Brae running on tablets. The slide show below shows some details from our work.
