Client: North Lanarkshire Council and the Glenboig Trust, summer 2024
Continuing our positive relations with the Seven Lochs Wetland Park team, CMC have produced fresh, community-focused interpretation for the Glenboig Life Centre and the surrounding village park.
The Life Centre celebrates the local area’s natural heritage and hidden industrial past – now largely green space, it was once at the heart of the fire clay industry.
We worked with North Lanarkshire Council and the Glenboig Trust to produce an exhibition which includes a large wall vinyl map and aerial photo, explaining the area from above and a touchscreen with archival footage showing how fire clay bricks were made. A timeline shows the area’s transition from industrial site to wildlife haven and community hub.
In the park and external areas we produced three new interpretation panels and an activity trail for families. The trail features posts with nature rubbing plaques on top, along the pathways around Garnqueen Loch. You are encouraged to find ‘What Glenboig stands for’ (an old industry slogan) with each clue taking a letter from the village’s name. The accompanying fold-out leaflet has tasks and questions to quiz your wildlife knowledge while also delving a bit deeper into the area’s industrial past.
CMC Associates worked with us on the Glenboig Centre to produce interpretation, a community project and a series of activity sheets. They were great to work with, working to the brief but also offering suggestions, guidance and advice based on their experience and knowledge. Very happy with the final outputs and would highly recommend!
